British Indian Ocean Territory

The British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) is an archipelago of 58 islands, the largest being Diego Garcia. It is a restricted military zone, home to a major US/UK naval support facility. There is no indigenous population (the Chagossians were expelled in the 1960s-70s), and tourism is strictly prohibited except for passing yachts with permits.
