Nature

Seven Rila Lakes: A stunning hike in the mountains. Belogradchik Rocks: Weird red rock formations with a fortress built into them. The Black Sea Coast: Varna and Burgas are the main hubs.

Shopska Salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onion, sirene cheese). Banitsa (cheese pastry). Rakia (fruit brandy) is the national drink. Yogurt (Kiselo mlyako) is claimed to be the best in the world.

Confusingly, nodding means 'No' and shaking your head means 'Yes' (though this is changing with younger people).

Currency?

Bulgarian Lev (BGN), pegged to the Euro (1.95583 BGN = 1 EUR). Euros are not widely accepted directly.

Language?

Bulgarian (Cyrillic alphabet). English is spoken in tourist areas, but less in rural villages.
