What is eSIM and Why It's Convenient

eSIM is a digital SIM card embedded in your phone. You don't need to look for a paperclip to open the tray or worry about losing a tiny piece of plastic. You just scan a QR code and get connected.

The main advantage is the ability to buy a plan from home and activate it immediately upon arrival. No queues at the airport or trying to explain yourself to a seller in an unfamiliar language.

How to Choose an eSIM Provider

There are many aggregator apps (Airalo, Yesim, Drimsim, etc.) that offer plans worldwide. Compare prices per gigabyte and validity period.

  • Check if your phone supports eSIM.
  • Compare coverage: for one country or regional (e.g., all of Europe).
  • Pay attention to tethering capability if you plan to work from a laptop.

Local SIM Card: When It's Cheaper

If you are going for a long time (from 2 weeks) or need a local number for calls and registration in taxi/delivery services, a physical local SIM card will often be cheaper than an eSIM.

Buy SIM cards at official carrier stores in the city, not at the airport, where prices can be inflated 2-3 times.
